Technical Regulation for Textiles
As per the SASO-issued Technical Regulation of Textile Products (02-05-18-164 M.A), effective from 24 August 2018, exporters of textile items are required to comply with specific standards. The regulation covers a wide range of products that consist of 80% or more textile fibers by weight. This includes fibers, yarns, woven or spun textiles, curtains, upholstery, carpets, garments, and technical fabrics
Additionally, it applies to furniture items and household products such as blankets, cushions, umbrellas, and parasols, where textile components make up at least 80% of the item’s weight. Specific categories under the regulation include the top layers of multilayered floorings, bedspreads, mattress covers, and camping gear covers, provided the textile share in these upper layers is 80% or more.
The regulation also addresses textile components embedded within other products, for example, footwear with textile uppers or linings, bags and luggage with fabric sections, and headwear that incorporates textile materials. These items are considered under the scope when the textile element is both substantial and functionally integral.
